How do I classify 'hose and pump' irrigation systems?
Remember
that details on irrigation are not required. This section only needs to be
filled out if you want help from the tool in calculating the amount of energy
use involved in irrigation (and therefore GHG). Since the Cool Farm Tool does
not have information on the energy use of a “hose and pump” system, I recommend
estimating the energy use in irrigation outside of the Cool Farm Tool. The best
way is a direct estimate of the amount of diesel consumed and/or kWh used, and
fill these values out in section 4.1. If you use 4.1 and do not need the tool
to help with energy use estimation, you could leave all of the irrigation
questions unanswered. If considering this comment, you still want to use the
Cool Farm Tool to assist with the estimation of energy use in irrigation,
“flooding” may be the closest.

What does the irrigation efficiency show?
The number represents gross irrigation divided by crop water requirements. This describes how much of the crop requirements are supplied by irrigation. Therefore, the lower the number the less irrigation water-dependent is your production. However, ...
Calculation error - Crops: Known calculation errors of irrigation model
During the development of the new perennials pathway several calculation errors have been detected for the irrigation model. For irrigation emissions both based on volume only and on volume, depth and distance, the reported % of area irrigated is not ...
Can I account for the time the manure is stored in different systems?
We do not consider timing currently in manure emission calculations. The values used in the Cool Farm Tool are average annual IPCC emission factors. While there is a link between emissions and duration of storage, it is a lot more complex to estimate ...
Will the tool provide meaningful results if I do not enter any irrigation?
The Cool Farm Tool does not require any information on irrigation if no irrigation is applied. For rainfed agriculture, the tool will estimate water use, water footprints and water use efficiency based on precipitation only. Therefore, you will only ...
