Known Issue: discrepancy between online and downloaded beef farm emissions data due to omitted grassland fertilization in Excel export

Known Issue: Discrepancy in Beef Farm Emissions Totals (Cool Farm Tool)

Issue:
Users have reported a discrepancy between the Total emissions value and the sum of individual emissions categories in the downloaded data sheet for beef farms in the Cool Farm Tool (CFT).

Cause:
The downloaded Excel data sheet omits emissions from grassland fertilization, which are included in the online “Detailed data” table. This leads to a mismatch between the “Total emissions” (row 16) and the calculated subtotal from the individual categories (row 29). The missing amount matches the “Grassland fertilization” emissions shown online.

Details:

  • This discrepancy only appears in beef farm calculations; dairy farm calculations are unaffected.

  • The difference value in row 30 of the downloaded sheet reflects the missing grassland fertilization data.

  • It was initially thought this could be due to different GWP factors or calculation methods (e.g., for enteric fermentation), but the primary issue is a data export inconsistency.

Resolution/Workaround:
There is no current fix, but users can reconcile totals by:

  • Viewing the online Detailed Data table, where all categories (including grassland fertilization) are included.

  • Manually adding grassland fertilization CO₂e values to the subtotal in the downloaded file if needed.

Status:
This issue has been reported to developers and should be addressed in a future update to avoid confusion.
