Can I account for the time the manure is stored in different systems?

We use an IPCC Tier 2 method for estimating manure storage emissions which does not allow users to consider changes in storage duration or sequential management practices. The IPCC default factors assume a typical storage duration in the primary management system. The model does not track changes in manure properties over time from storage duration or sequential management practices.

Emissions from manure systems do not behave linearly with time, therefore we cannot recommend applying a time-based percentage split between systems as this would likely underestimate emissions. In line with the IPCC, we recommend selecting the dominant manure management system used.

If you spread it on your fields instead of selling it, you need to input this in your fertiliser section of your livestock of crop assessment.

As always, remember to add into the user notes any assumptions you have made.
